Trophy kitchens continue to add a wow factor to any home and so every inch of space has to be considered to keep those polished stone counters clear and top-of-the-range appliances looking their best.

Whether you have a trendy, but bijoux kitchen in a central city apartment or a large open-plan luxury kitchen, as long as clear kitchen surfaces and uncluttered table tops and cupboards are desirable, saving space in your kitchen will always be worthwhile.

Our kitchen space savers

Take a look at these kitchen space savers to maximise the space that you have:

Hang pans up

If you have some luxurious Le Creuset pots and pans, don’t hide them away in the cupboard, free up some cupboard space by hanging them on unused wall space. Copper ceiling racks are on-trend and display copper pans beautifully.

A metal grid wall organiser will add some texture to your wall and you can hang kitchen utensils, knives and chopping boards in between artwork and luscious plants.

Store wine bottles and glasses under the cabinets

Coming back from the 1970s with style, adding a folding trolley to your kitchen can instantly give you several levels more surface area so that you can have the extra surface. You can use a trolley to plate up meals, prepare ingredients, make cocktails or serve drinks and nibbles to guests.

The practical Kartell Gastone trolley looks stylish and has a depth of 23 cm when closed so it can be stored away when not in use and doesn’t take up much space.

There are also trolleys on the market which are also statement pieces and perfect for using as a bar area at a party.  The Luxe Round Bamboo Drinks Trolley by Oliver Bonas is stunning for a glamourous open-plan kitchen area, while the Chariot Table by Horm and Casamania would look striking in a contemporary kitchen.

Consider counter top and slimline dishwashers

Perhaps you need a compact dishwasher because your kitchen is small, or perhaps you have a large kitchen, but a small number of people living in the house so you want to make the most of the space. Slimline dishwashers can be just as good as their full size equivalent - the technology used is the same, while being excellent kitchen space savers.

Miele and Bosch make some slimline dishwashers with sensors to adjust your water consumption. They are also quiet when they are washing so you won’t be disturbed if your kitchen is open plan. Bosch also make a tabletop dishwasher which has received good reviews. So you can save kitchen space, while not compromising on quality.

Turn your kitchen sink into a workstation

There are so many kitchen sink accessories that you can buy which can make the area multi-purpose. You can fit over the sink chopping boards and dish racks or even a sink colander which is handy when you are holding a hot pan straight from the stove with two hands.

You can even buy sink ice buckets for chilling some champagne.

Invest in a hot water tap

There is no doubt that outdated kettles hog precious kitchen worktop space. You can simply swap your mixer tap for an an all-in-one-tap which will dispense filtered steaming hot water and regular hot and cold water. Not only is a steaming hot water tap a kitchen space saver, but it will also save you time as you will no longer have to wait for the kettle to boil.

Use magnets and expandable kitchen counter organisers

Japanese company Yamazaki find intelligent and stylish solutions for space saving. They produce magnet shelving and hooks that you can put on your fridge or sides of metal cabinets to hold anything from kitchen utensils to paper towels and plastic freezer bags.

They also make expandable kitchen counter organisers.

Explore room divider shelving

If you have an open plan kitchen and need more space for your recipe books, crockery, plants, pans or food mixer consider using standalone shelving to divide the space between your kitchen and living or dining area.

You can find some really stylish shelves which are striking in their own right such as the Literatura Open by Punt or the modular Polvara for Kartell.

Get rid of wires on the worktop with wireless chargers

By installing a charging pad on your kitchen worktop you will vanish the bundles and tangles of wires from mobile phones and tablets. This will also free up plug space needed for kitchen appliances.

You can also buy charging docks which stack all your devices neatly and hide all the wires, instantly compacting the kitchen space needed to charge items.

Organise your cupboards

Simply organising your kitchen cupboards so that everything has a set space will instantly expose more space that you didn’t even know you had. You can buy storage aids like baskets, drawers and dividers to help you maximise every area of the cupboard.

Choose a moveable kitchen island

Party-size kitchen islands are highly desirable at the moment, but if you would rather keep that central area of kitchen space free, consider getting a moveable kitchen island where you can move the island to sit along a wall if needed. IKEA have a stylish black and oak ‘VADHOLMA’ kitchen island, while some moveable kitchen islands also include drawers, shelves and baskets

Install a food waste disposer

By installing a food waste disposer in your kitchen sink, you will immediately eliminate the need for the unsightly, smelly, unhygienic food waste caddy that will be cluttering up your kitchen floor, cupboard or work surface.
