We all deserve to have a bit of luxury within our home environment - so why not start with the hub of your home, the kitchen? When we think of luxury items, we may not always associate the idea of indulgence with being sustainable - however, that doesn’t have to be the case. There are a number of steps you can take to ensure your kitchen is eco-friendly without losing its luxurious appeal.

From becoming energy-efficient by installing a hot water tap in the kitchen, to buying equipment and appliances that don’t need regularly replacing, today, we’re taking a look at the different ways you can make your kitchen eco-friendly without missing out on any of the luxuries.

Choose energy-saving light fixtures

Energy-efficient light fixtures have become an absolute must-have in modern home designs. To make sure your kitchen is as luxurious as possible, you’ll need a lighting fixture that not only brings a cosy glow to the room but will also save you energy (and money!) in the long run. LED lights are a good option when looking to produce a warm ambiance in your room as they fill the space with a natural, flattering light while also being significantly more energy-efficient.

If you want to take your lighting to a higher level of luxury, you could opt for having either an automated lighting system, a smart lighting system or a motion sensor system. All three of these systems can be controlled remotely or automatically, therefore reducing energy waste by a significant amount while providing you with a high-tech system that’s luxurious on every level.

Install a hot water tap

A hot water tap not only acts as an extremely practical tool in the kitchen, but it allows you to simplify cooking and declutter the kitchen, which immediately enhances your room’s elegant feel. After all, a luxurious kitchen has enough storage space to make sure that very little is out on show meaning that, ultimately, you have less on the worktops.

A hot water tap removes the need for having a kettle out on show all the time, reducing the amount of space needed on the worktop while also minimising the appearance of arguably unattractive cables. Not only this, but you have a quick way of providing hot drinks, preparing food or deep cleaning dishes - all while saving on your energy-use. Only heating the amount of water that you need provides you with a money-saving opportunity too - there are countless benefits to be had.

Invest in energy-efficient appliances

Highly-efficient energy appliances are a common feature in luxurious kitchen interiors. Similarly as with the lighting in your room, smart technology can go hand in hand with eco-friendliness. Investing money in appliances that are going to be long-lasting while reducing the amount of energy you use is worth the short-term spend.

Some smart fridges even have built-in cameras that can provide you with a constant visual insight into the contents of your fridge without having to regularly open and close it - therefore reducing the energy spent unnecessarily opening it.

Additionally, a smart oven produces enough heat to cook your food with and distributes it to where it needs to be while also having settings to ensure you’re only using the amount of heat needed for certain types of food. You can also find some ovens that have the option to be controlled by your phone, so if you’re planning on slow cooking your family’s evening meal, you can control the oven from your phone while at work.

Create a comfy living space

As arguably the heart of your home, why not create a space in or near your kitchen where your friends and family can get comfy while you’re cooking? Create an area that will fit within the space you already have available, that’s home to comfy seating and a stylish side table for drinks and snacks. You could even use the side table to place potted plants on top of to further embrace the ‘go green’ theme.

To make it eco-friendly, look at what furniture you already have in your home that could be upcycled rather than thrown away. You might have a chair in your living room that doesn’t quite match the room anymore but that would work well within your kitchen once you gave it a little TLC. Consider refreshing it with a lick of paint or a change of the fabric to make it comfy enough to provide a space people will want to sit in while you’re working in the kitchen.

The modern-day luxurious home is focused on convenience, eco-friendliness and functionality while still oozing an elegant and stylish feel in every corner of the house, no matter your taste or style.
